Food and culture! I love exploring places that are different from Australia and talking to the community. Everyone in Milos is so happy to talk to you about their family's history with the island and share their top tips.

What do you value most when travelling?
Hidden gems or recommendations?
Milos in general is a great alternative to the very touristy islands like Mykonos and Santorini. In Milos, you still get the classic blue roof views but the island is far quieter.
There is a famous beach there that looks like the surface of the Moon called Sarakiniko beach. Most tourists will go during the day to swim, however it can be blistering as the sun reflects right off the white rocks. I would recommend going towards dusk and watching the sunset, it is absolutely breathtaking.
Surprises on your trip?
Our boat tour around the island! It was absolutely stunning. I recommend choosing one that offers lunch to expereince an authentic meal! We were pleasantly surprised about all the hidden spots on the island they showed us too!
Things you wish you knew before visiting?
The island is very spread out and public transport isn't the best. I would recommend hiring a car - if you are in a large group you can hire a mini van - with a driver. There are also two ways to the island, you can ferry (about 4.5 hours) or take a plane (about 40 mins from Athens). Often they about the same price, so if you are time poor, I would recommend flying. The airport in Milos is quite small so you might not experience the luxuries you are used to.
Anything spontaneous that wasn’t on your itinerary?
There are lots of bars that sell takeaway Aperol Spritz, we stopped by Verina for one and watched the sun set over the main church Pangaia Korfiatissa in Plaka. It was magic!
Any tips from the locals?
O Hamos! They have handwritten menus with the restaurant owner’s story, detailing their journey to Milos. Plus, the "Married Chickpeas" are divine!
Staying in Klima was a great recommendation, specifically staying at Klima Bay Beachfront Boutique Houses. They are little townhouses with a kitchen, so you can find local ingredients and cook meals at your home away from home.
