Having grown up in sunny Queensland, media icon Deborah Hutton is a lover of the sun and of the outdoors - from the beach to the golf course, she is happiest when outside in the sunshine.
But after having to have not one, but two, skin cancers removed in recent years that left her with a large scar on her face which ran from her nose to her mouth, Deborah knew that she had to do something to promote and reinforce the importance of sun safety.
And after realising that most of the beach hats that she was wearing were not offering adequate protection from harmful UV rays, designing her own line of UPF 50+ hats seemed like the perfect way to do so - we are thrilled to introduce you to the Canopy Bay by Deborah Hutton collection.
These hats were designed with the modern, active woman in mind. Deborah didn't want to give up on her lifestyle, which includes everything from walks on the beach to boating trips, so she has designed a hat for every occasion.
Some are chic enough to be worn with a blazer, others are best paired with your favourite swimsuit and linen shirt but all have one thing in common - they are manufactured here in Australia from premium materials by Rigon Headwear and are of the utmost sophistication.

Where are Canopy Bay hats made?
All hats in the Canopy Bay by Deborah Hutton collection are proudly designed and handmade right here in Australia, supporting talented local hat makers that have been in the hat business for over 50 years.
What makes a hat UPF 50?
If a hat is UPF 50 means that it blocks 98% of UV radiation, letting only 1/50th reach your skin.
All hats in the Canopy Bay by Deborah Hutton collection have been given the UPF50+ rating by the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA). This is a rigorous process that involves in-laboratory testing of the product or fabric to determine how much UV rays are actually allowed to penetrate the hat.
Some materials naturally offer some form of sun protection as does the way the raffia braid can be woven but there is no way to know exactly how much protection a garment or accessory offers without it undergoing that testing process.

Do I still need sunscreen if I wear a hat?
Absolutely! Hats should not replace sunscreen or sunglasses in protecting your face, eyes and neck from the sun as light is reflected from nearby surfaces. And all hats are not equal – look for wide brims that offer more coverage, technical or tightly woven materials that barely let in any UV rays and look for that UPF50 rating.
