Here is a link to this week's video: https://fb.watch/7TKegLvLGE/

Our stylist, Dan, wears the Addilyn Black Drawstring Cotton Dress in a size 8 - we love this dress for so many reasons:

First, it’s a beautiful stretch fabric. It has a round neck that still shows some skin, the sleeve finishes in a really great place and is large enough to allow for some movement, but the highlight really is the drawstring: if we’re wanting to wear it out we can but if we want to create shape we can.

Another great thing is that it’s quite deep so if you have a bigger bust it would still sit perfectly. At 5’2 it is calf-length on Dan. We could wear it with trainers or bring on a statement necklace such as the Tyler Pink Layer Necklace to show off the colour.

Hat of the Week

Kimbra Rainbow Woven Hat -$74.95: we had a similar hat in white and blue last week that was very much Mediterranean-inspired. With this one, Dan feels like she’s travelling to South America! This hat is absolutely gorgeous, very light as it is straw. We have some great pom pom detailing that gives it a bit of texture and a rainbow trim that goes around the hat. But what Dan loves about this hat is that it’s giving you a good understanding of how pattern and pattern can go together: we have a cream and black pattern, a rainbow of colours and even a little snakeskin situation on the inside and we can pair it with black, white or denim just as well. This is a really great versatile hat that you can have a lot of fun with!

Endless Summer Woven Pana Hat -$74.95: here’s another hat that we love. This one is bronze and cream, with a metallic bronze leather band and a tobacco coloured pom pom.

Spotlight on Accessories

We have a lot of beautiful neutral accessories in at the moment and some great colours as well.

Indra Wood Woven Clutch: this one will go back with everything, not only can it be worn with black but how stunning does it look with the Lacy Blue Denim Stretch Skirt and the Sandra White Button Tunic Top? Just add the Derby Rose Gold Leather Lace Up Shoes - they’re stunning and have cut-out detailing. Even though they’re metallic, they’re still adding some colour which is great. But if we wanted something brighter, we could pop on a stunning neon pink necklace, like the Kamala Pink Etched Wood Necklace, which ends up being the hero of the outfit.

We’re loving bright accessories for the summer!

But if you do want something neutral, we have the Lessie White Gold Twist Necklace which is shiny-white with wooden detailing which is a bit more subdued.

Little tip: if you’re buying yourself a fabric bag, Scotchgard it before you wear it. Give it maybe 3 coats and let it dry in order to protect it. Because wouldn’t you hate being out for dinner and someone spills a drink on your new favourite bag?

We’re also loving the brushed gold Maya Gold Tassel Necklace paired with the Bodie Blush Circle Drop Earring - it’s a beautiful pale pink shade that goes with everything.

For a touch of fun go for the Tamara Hot Pink Bracelet Trio, these fuchsia bracelets come in a set of 3 and one of the bracelets has a little silver metallic drop on it.

Then we have the Chrisley Pink Flower Statement Earring, isn’t that gorgeous! These have a large flower at the top and a gold pendant hoop. Isn’t that a statement! How gorgeous with white!

Q:Which side of the top do you choose to do your scrunchie and elastic band trick on?

This is a great tip that we should all embrace. But first, why do we do this?

A lot of the time our tops are sitting a little bit longer on us, which is great as we can tuck them in, it gives us great scope to blouse them over, if you’re wearing fitted pants you can wear it out. But for people that have a similar body type to Dan’s and that need some balance in the torso, this is really important. Dan is 5’2 so she needs to show some proportions and showcase her waist, which is the smallest part of her body.

So what you do is you get to the hem, you grab the corner of your Reagan Floral Linen Top - it doesn't matter which corner, it can be the right or left one, it’s all good, you make a ponytail with the fabric and tuck it up.

Some fabrics are slippier than others and might not sit properly, in that case you can just tuck it into your waistband so that it doesn’t move around. Another thing you can do if you don’t have an elastic is just twist the fabric and tuck it into your waistband. Play around with different fabrics to figure out which technique works best. Depending on where the waist finishes on your bottom you can tie your shirt up a little bit shorter or longer, which is the benefit of using a rubber band. All of this is creating shape and making our body look more in proportion, which is what we aim to do!

Q: Would you happen to have some cocktail dresses suggestions?

We will have more cocktail dresses coming in soon but at the moment we do have beautiful shirts that we could wear back with stunning straight leg pants, like the Hermione Aqua Mosaic Shirt.

We also have the Mimi Black Cotton Broderie Anglaise Dress which works so beautifully on and is always a winner.

Q: I love kaftans but some say I’m better off not to wear them free-flowing - can I do a tuck?

Of course you can! If you have a flowy dress like a kaftan that you want to add some more shape to, grab the inside fabric at the bottom corner and tie it up in a ponytail to give it a ruched effect. It creates some movement and adds drama! So something that wasn’t very fitted and had a loose flowing effect all of a sudden has an anchor point, it has lifted the whole dress up and given me more shape.

There could be a few reasons why people say that. One, they might be jealous. Or two, you could try wearing it with a wedge or a platform rather than a flat to give you some height. It could also be the length that isn’t flattering; is it the type of kaftan that has to be either long to the ground or that needs to be to the knee? That’s the thing as well, make sure that it’s finishing at the right spot on your body as some hem lengths can make you look shorter.

Have a question for Dan? Leave it in the comments below and don’t forget to tell her where you want to wear your pieces and what you want to pair the with - the more details the better!

You can catch her every Tuesday at 4pm (AEST) in the Blue Bungalow Inner Circle Facebook group - don’t worry, we record the sessions so you can always watch them later.
